Conquer the cold without the weight!
Our goal in designing Nested Whitetail Gear is to create gear that is as warm and durable as the best gear on the market but with far less weight. We believe insulated hunting gear should be packable and never weigh you down. Hunters who navigate rough terrain or pack in long distances especially appreciate high-quality, lightweight gear. Experienced whitetail hunters know they need to avoid sweating on the hike in but still want to stay warm and comfortable on stand. That’s why Nested Whitetail Gear uses superior insulations and the best available technologies to produce gear that is exceptionally warm and durable, while remaining lightweight and easy to pack.
Our Insulations
Our Double Down Parka and Bibs utilizes ThinDown insulation. THINDOWN® offers all the natural advantages of down in a thin and lightweight profile. As it compares to a leading competition, the Double Down Parka and Bib are more efficient at trapping heat but do so with about half the weight. Down is the most efficient insulation, but the baffling required with loose down, creates stitch lines where heat can escape. Thindown addresses the shortcoming of loose down by eliminating the need for baffling and therefore maximizes heat retention with an overall thinner profile.
Our PackDown line of gear uses 750 treated Ultrasonic Muscovy Down as the primary insulation. Muscovy ducks are a slow-growing domestic breed that produce large, resilient down clusters with thicker, stronger fibers even when compared to goose down. Hydrophobic treatment ensures loft and warmth even when damp, and patented ultrasonic technology eliminates bacteria and odor.
The Science of Staying Warm
Human temperature regulation follows the core–shell model, where the body prioritizes keeping the core (head and torso) warm while allowing the extremities, the shell, to cool if necessary. In cold environments, the brain rapidly reduces blood flow to the hands and feet through peripheral vasoconstriction to conserve heat for survival. This is why fingers and toes are especially vulnerable to getting cold.
Cold extremities are usually the result of insufficient insulation across the rest of the body, not just exposure at the hands or feet. If the torso, arms, and legs are losing heat, the body further restricts blood flow to the shell, making even the warmest gloves and boots ineffective. By contrast, when the entire body, especially the core, is well insulated, overall heat loss drops and warm blood continues to circulate to the extremities. This preserves dexterity, strength, and performance in the cold.
In practical terms, warm hands and feet start with full-body insulation. The body functions as a single thermal system, not isolated parts. To keep the extremities working, the whole body must be protected.
